Clinical Study for DR7 No. 1

Title

Lactobacillus plantarum DR7 alleviates stress and anxiety in adults: a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled human study.

Results

  1. Reduced symptoms of stress, anxiety, and total psychological scores as early as 8 weeks of consumption among stressed adults compared to the placebo group. 

  2. Reduced plasma cortisol levels after 12 weeks compared with placebo.

  3. Improved selected cognitive and memory functions in adults over 30 years old, specifically basic attention, emotional cognition, and associative learning.

  4. Modulation of neurotransmitter-related pathways through enhancement of serotonin pathway markers and stabilization of dopamine pathway markers via the regulation of specific enzyme and receptor gene expression.

  5. Anti-inflammatory effects observed through a shift in inflammation-related markers compared with placebo.

  6. The study confirmed key probiotic characteristics of Lactobacillus plantarum DR7 and reported potential benefits for psychological function, cognitive health, and memory in stressed adults.

Clinical Study for DR7 No. 2

Title

Lactobacillus plantarum DR7 Modulated Bowel Movement and Gut Microbiota Associated with Dopamine and Serotonin Pathways in Stressed Adults. 

A randomised, double-blind, and placebo-controlled clinical study in humans.

Results

  1. It was shown that physiological changes induced by Lactobacillus plantarum DR7 may be associated with changes in specific gut microbiota taxa along the serotonin and dopamine pathways.

  2. After 12 weeks, participants taking Lactobacillus plantarum DR7 showed higher gut microbiota diversity and a distinct gut microbiota profile compared with participants in the placebo group. DR7 helped maintain gut microbiota richness during stress, while the placebo group showed a reduction in microbial diversity.

  3. Lactobacillus plantarum DR7 helped decrease stress-related gut overactivity over 12 weeks, compared with placebo.

  4. At the time of publishing, this was the first study to correlate the effects of a probiotic with gut microbiota changes and genes involved in brain neurotransmitter pathways, strengthening the hypothesis of health benefits along the gut–brain axis.

Clinical Study for DR7 / KABP051 No. 3

Title

Effects of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum KABP051 Probiotic on Body Composition, Microbiome and Mood in Healthy Overweight Adults.

A randomised, double-blind, and placebo-controlled clinical study in humans.

Results

  1. Regarding mood status assessed by POMS, the probiotic group showed a global trend toward improvement in fatigue and confusion sub-scores compared with placebo, with statistically significant between-group differences observed at week 12 in a secondary analysis.

  2. Probiotic supplementation resulted in a significant overall reduction in total body weight and waist circumference compared with placebo, while body fat percentage showed an overall trend toward reduction over the 12 weeks of treatment.

  3. Results suggest that a specific strain of probiotic bacteria (L. plantarum KABP051) may have both metabolic and psychobiotic effects and may be beneficial for enhancing weight loss and body composition, improving energy (less fatigue) and mood levels while embarking on a healthy lifestyle regimen.
